Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most popular Savannah Park in Uganda and the second largest national Park. The best place to see Lions including the tree climbing Lions making it the perfect destination for tourists to explore. It prides in a great diversity of habitats that includes, Lake savannah grassland, Forests and Wetlands that serve as a home to the biggest variety of mammals in the country. The park was named after the Queen of England in 1954 following her visit.

Location

Queen Elizabeth National Park is located in Western part of Uganda about 389Km from the Capital Kampala and can be accessed by road over 6hr30mins drive via Masaka road and Fort Portal – Kasese Road It’s found between Lake George and Albert with the Kazinga Channel crossing its 700 square mile land area.

Attractions

Tree climbing lions with just two populations of these unique lions in the whole world, explore the southern ishasha sector to track these Lions commonly seen up in the fig and acacia trees. Lake Albert and George and its home to a large number of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants and hippos which can easily be seen on the thrilling Kazinga Boat ride to Kasenyi plains. Queen Elizabeth cultural tour includes Kikorongo equator Cultural performers, visiting the traditional Banyaraguru hut, local community members, touring Lake Katwe salt works where you will see workers harvesting salt on the Lake.

The falls are on the Victoria or White Nile River. The park is home to the largest population of crocodiles, there are around 75 species of mammals. Some of the larger and more popular wildlife species include Lions, Leopards, Giraffe, Elephants, Waterbuck, Hartebeest, Buffalo, Hippopotamus and Chimpanzees living across the national park boundaries. Murchison Falls National Park is also a haven for bird watchers with over 450 species of birds that nest or migrate through the park. The Goliath Heron is a nice treat to see since it is the largest heron the world. Many of the species are waterfowl, however, there are many other species such as the red-throated bee-eater.

Climate and best time to visit

Best time to visit runs from January to February and from June to September. It is considered the best to visit with the Peak Safaris. While migratory spieces arrive in August to December, and March to May offering the best birding time.
