About Sipi Falls

Sipi Falls is a series of three Waterfalls found in the village of Sipi in the Kapchorwa district of eastern Uganda approximately 277km from Kampala and it is a 4hr drive from Kampala Uganda`s capital. Sipi falls is found in the foothills of Mountain Elgon just at the edge of Mountain Elgon National Park near the Kenyan boarder. They are considered to be a tourist attraction by the locals, accounting to 10-20% of all the tourist visits in Uganda every year. The glorious falls were named after the Sipi River, which in turn was named after a locally grown plant called ‘SEP’. The plant resembles a wild banana and is used for medicinal purposes as it is believed to treat measles and fevers. The Sipi falls is considered phenomenon to many visitors, both local and foreign yearly. It is regarded as one of the most romantic places in Uganda. The falls are a series of three prominent waterfalls, with the longest drops as high as 100m. The second waterfall drops 75m below and has upper cascades before the plunge. The third waterfall measures 85m and is tall and columnar. The falls have a vigorous flow with mist and even creates mini rainbows when the sun hits, it can be a place to bring a loved one to spend some refreshing time together.

Activities

Abseiling is the most adventurous activity and the sport you will engage in your trip. In this activity you descend down the slopes of steep with a device and a rope (This activity is also called rappelling).

Hiking Your provided with walking sticks to provide support on this hike and it takes you three hours to hike all the three Sipi falls.

Argo-tour On this tour, you will get to experience the life of the coffee growers and the main type of coffee grown is Arabica coffee.

A game drive to mount Elgon National Park and it`s 34km kilometres from Sipi falls and there is a lot to see in the park, wildlife like; leopards, Bush pigs, bush ducks, forests hogs, elephants, buffalos, water ducks, baboons and many others to mention but a few.

Sipi Falls resort This lodge has 5 comfortable thatched cottages which are equipped with private facilities and has a very good restaurant that provides both local and international cuisine and a nice bar area to drink from.
